The women's team was paced last week by Janine Powis, who earned her first collegiate cross country win with a big finishing kick. That group will likely be pushed by Ryan Thompson, Theo Reynolds, Charlie Frank and Steve Green for scoring positions. Those five, Jaron Martin, Chris Grooms, Alex Koksal, Michael Beegle and Morgan Elliott, should be in contention for the top five positions through the year. The Rock men were paced in the opener last week by a pack of returners that finished just 11 seconds apart from the top finisher to the fifth and final scorer. Also expected to contend for the top honors will be Division III Carnegie Mellon, which narrowly edged The Rock last week in the season-opening Mack Cooper Classic. PSAC schools Lock Haven, Clarion and West Chester will join Slippery Rock as the six Division II schools entered in the meet. The Mountaineers are ranked sixth in the region, while the Golden Bears are ranked 10th.
The women's race features two teams that are regionally ranked in the Atlantic Region in Mansfield and Kutztown. The men's field is rounded out by Division III schools Juniata, Keystone, Lycoming, Marywood, Misericordia, Wilkes and Susquehanna. 4 in the region and Carnegie Mellon ranks 14th in the Division III national rankings.Īlso in the men's field is Kutztown, which is currently ranked seventh in the region, along with other PSAC schools Mansfield and West Chester.
The men's race will feature an early season battle between PSAC and Altantic Region contenders Lock Haven and Slippery Rock, along with Division III power Carnegie Mellon. and will be followed by the women's 6,000-meter race at 11:30 a.m.Ī total of 13 men's teams and 14 women's teams are scheduled to compete in the meet, including some of the top-ranked teams in the region.
The men's 8,000-meter race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday's races will be run on the same course that will host the NCAA Atlantic Regional championship meet later this fall. – The Slippery Rock University men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Lock Haven University Saturday for the LHU Invitational.
